A painting by Wolf Kahn entitled "View Across the Plain (1958)" encouraged my research into the gray, purple and cold terrain of December 28, 08. One must look to one's art relatives when undertaking something that seems impossible at the moment. Certainly, Wolf's painting, a reproduction of which exists in a dog earred book I keep near my studio, provided hints as to how one elicits tension and majesty out of a day that seems dank and unforgiving.
