It's a toss up as to which artist I would select to be my "silent mentor," in this lifelong process of making art, but surely Jennifer Bartlett ranks high on my list. A book of her work, IN THE GARDEN, has been my constant companion in and out of the studio since the late 80's. Everytime I open that book, it surprises me, such as this morning, when I saw images I do not recall seeing previously. Of particular interest was IN THE GARDEN #85, drawn in conte crayon, which gave me some hints as to how to complete this piece.
